Daniel Joseph(Rusty)Staub, Great Baseball Player & Humanitarian, died this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach in Florida at age 73, 3 Days short of his 74th Birthday.
My Teenage Years & 20s were spent watching Rusty Staub, during his two tours with the NY Mets. Rusty retired in 1985.
He was taught by the Pre-Vatican II Jesuits at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA. At 19 Years Old with the Houston Astros(Colt 45s until 1965), Rusty was a 5 Time All Star with Houston, then a National League Ballclub.
Rusty spent 9 of his 23 Years of Major League Play with the NY Mets. He also set up the NYC Police & Firefighters Widows Fund.
